As of today advanced technology of most operation systems, with the in built firewall of windows that works very well to keep away threats and unwanted connections, the demand of third party personal firewalls is way down, nowdays they are usually a part or a feature of security suits.
With that said, now there are some new tools in the market, I would argue that a network monitoring software is not needed for all users,Let’s say if you have only 1 computer and you occusionlay reading emails and watching some cat videos on YouTube, probably the windows firewall is enough for you and you will need nothing more than that, but Let’s say for example you need to connect to your company servers to work from home, or you are streaming on twitch or even playing video games online and you need your network in perfect condition you might want to consider continue reading this Home network monitoring software review.
Network monitoring software – What am I talking about?
GlassWire is a network monitor & security tool with a built in firewall.
It has many great features, the developers call it a “visual firewall,” and it is living up to name,
it does have many visualization built in, you can see all past and present network data in an easy to understand graph. Instantly see every application or process communicating over the Internet, then dive in deeper to see who or what your computer is communicating with. Whenever anything new on your computer accesses the network GlassWire Let’s you know with a discreet alert that won’t interrupt your workflow .
Visual Network Monitoring
Downloading and installing GlassWire is a simple process.
You don’t have to reboot after installation, though it is advisable .
The main window is well-designed and straight forward, with icons at the top to select the five main pages, Alerts, Firewall, Graph, Things, and Usage. A pull-down menu at left gives access to help and settings.
At launch, the program immediately starts graphing network traffic, using different colors for downloads and uploads. You can select from a dozen skins to change the graph colors. By default, the graph shows the most recent five minutes of activity. Once you’ve been using the program for a while, you can get a different view by choosing to display the last three hours, or the last day, week, month, or year of activity.
GlassWire also has a toolbox of network security checks like system file change detection, device list change detection, app info change detection, ARP spoofing monitoring, the software also alerts you if your computer or server is communicating with a known IP or domain threat, and more features will be added in the future.
Bandwidth Usage Monitor
Keeping track of your daily, weekly, or monthly bandwidth usage is easy with GlassWire. Go to the usage tab to see what apps, traffic, or hosts are using the most bandwidth. See something strange? Click the icon of the app or traffic type to see more details about where your bandwidth was going along with any available geoip country IP information. Please keep in mind that GlassWire only keeps track of bandwidth for the computer and server it’s installed on and not total bandwidth usage on your network.
Multiple Remote Server Monitoring
Do you monitor remote servers for business, gaming, VOIP applications, or web applications? GlassWire installs easily on servers so you can monitor their network activity on your local computer via our remote access feature. Go to GlassWire’s settings and choose “remote server” to logon to your server after you have installed GlassWire on your local computer and remote server. GlassWire works exactly the same way on a remote server as it does on your local computer. See security alerts, new app network activity, and more.
WiFi Evil Twin Detection
Get alerted when new WiFi hardware appears nearby with your same network name, and also get alerted if your WiFi network suddenly loses its password.
Internet Privacy Protection
GlassWire shows all your network activity on an easy to use graph to help protect your Internet privacy. Easily see what apps are sending out data to the Internet and what host in what country they are communicating with. When you visit a website click the graph to see every server that your computer communicated with while that web page loaded. Visit a popular website with GlassWire running and you’ll be shocked to see how many different hosts are communicating with your computer for just one site. Every time a new application accesses the Internet GlassWire will alert you. You can then use GlassWire’s firewall to block the application.
GlassWire’s graph also shows when your computer is in use or idle. Keep track of major network activity when you were away from your computer and try to find out if that means something is wrong or if its normal behavior.
More features including some interesting ones –
Ask to Connect – Refuse new network connections until you’re asked to approve or deny the connection by GlassWire.

Who’s on your WiFi or Network?
Another nice features of GlassWire, you are able to see all the connected devices to your network
with IP’s addresses and MAC addresses, you also will be notified when a new device connects to the network
It reports when it first detected the device, and lists its IP and MAC addresses
So if you see and identify an unrecognized device on your network, it might be your neighbor who is watching Netflix using your network and slowing you down.

GlassWire is free to download for a 7 days trial , if you are not sure that you need it at all,
you can get the trail and see for yourself, the software running smoothly and easy to understand,

you can see and play with it yourself a bit and decided if that’s for you,
For more advanced users, if you have big networked or if you are running servers I would recommend considering buying 1 of the advanced editions of GlassWire, it will keep your network safe and clean.
GlassWire definitively delivers exactly what it promises, but many might find it difficult to understand its notifications and interpret its graphs.
This is not a product for the average user who just wants the Wi-Fi to work
Overall I do recommend it if you have larger network and do want to keep it safe
I am giving it 4 stars.
